Social Justice
From our founding in 1896 to today, social action has been a cornerstone of congregational life. We continue to live our mission by working together to create a more just and compassionate world.
At USR, our services are grounded in both spirituality and purpose. Our Social Justice work reaches beyond our walls—advocating for change, building relationships with partner organizations, and connecting to the broader Unitarian Universalist community. Our efforts are led by the Wider World Circle, which supports social justice, interfaith collaboration, and community engagement.
Racial Justice
This team advances anti-racism work within and beyond the congregation, grounded in USR’s commitment to the Eighth Principle.

Reproductive Justice
This team promotes a holistic, human rights-based approach to reproductive health, centering the experiences of those most impacted. Work includes advocacy, education, and support for organizations like the NJ Abortion Access Fund.

Democracy Team
This group works to uphold UU values of conscience, democracy, and global justice.

Environmental Justice
Grounded in respect for the interdependent web of life, this team works toward sustainability, education, and environmental protection—recognizing that environmental harm disproportionately affects vulnerable communities.

Immigrant Justice
Focused on humane immigration practices, this team supports efforts such as protecting Dreamers, advocating for policy change, and partnering with the Northern NJ Sanctuary Coalition.

Other Important Intiatives
Our work continues to expand through additional groups and initiatives, including food insecurity, housing, and LGBTQIA+ rights.
Get Involved
There is no one (or right!) way to be part of the Unitarian Society of Ridgewood. Perhaps you would like to join a small group, attend a special event, learn more at one of our educational lectures or seminars, volunteer in our gardens, change the world with one of our justice teams, or simply attend on Sundays for renewal and respite.
However you want to engage, there is a place for you at USR.
