Reproductive Justice Team
Reproductive Justice (RJ) takes a holistic, human rights and social justice approach dealing with issues that affect all women’s reproductive health and lives.
Reproductive Justice is the term created by women of color in 1994, to center the experience of the most vulnerable, and to bridge the gap between reproductive rights and other social justice movements. Therefore, the Team keeps in mind the ways that the systems of race, class, and gender affect a woman’s reproductive rights and health. Activities include film showings, study sessions, information sharing, federal and state legislative advocacy, support for abortion clinics, both Planned Parenthood and Independent Clinics and support for NJ Abortion Access Fund.
Mindful of the full spectrum of reproductive health, in addition to abortion access the team also engages in advocacy of maternal health, especially for black maternal justice, healthy sexual education and menstrual equity. Along with the UU Faith Action Reproductive Justice Task Force, a goal of the team is to engage in interfaith work when possible.
The team has added LGBTQIA+ family and allies support to our agendas due to the strong intersectionality, and are collaborating with community groups to share resources and increase advocacy. Read more >>
The team works with the Reproductive Justice Task Force of UU Faith Action NJ and partners with other groups within and outside the congregation. The Team is an active member of Thrive NJ, a statewide coalition of organizations working collectively to promote sexual and reproductive health, rights and justice through policy change and advocacy.
