Environmental Justice Team
The 25 members of the Environmental Justice Team seek to learn and teach about the sustainability of our planet and to find ways to create a sustainable way of life recognizing that inequities exist and that often those with the least power are the most impacted by environmental destruction; we work toward creating a more just and compassionate world. With that in mind, we schedule field trips to nearby water and air facilities, we bring in speakers to discuss current environmental problems, we produce theatrical productions through a group we started called the Environmental Justice Players and we present an annual Environmental Fair open to the public.
What We Believe
We believe in the principles of Environmental Justice which are to:

Increase ecological protection and safety within disadvantaged communities.

Expand cultural awareness and address potential language barriers.

Promote environmental education.

Provide additional opportunities for everyone to participate in the decision-making process, regardless of race or socioeconomic status.
Our Commitments
Are to the principles of environmental justice, which focuses on the core beliefs and structures around protecting the environment and giving people control over what happens to their communities.
The Environmental Justice Team will meet via zoom and also at scheduled in-person meetings. A primary function for the group is to put together its annual Earth Day Fair open to the public at USR on the Saturday previous to Earth Day in April.
