UUSC Raising Money for Emergency Humanitarian Crisis Fund

I need to update you quickly on a pair of urgent crises that are inflicting terrible new suffering on some of the most marginalized populations in the world.

In east Africa, a worsening drought is threatening millions with starvation, especially refugees, impoverished families in remote locations, and other particularly vulnerable groups.

At the same time, members of the long-persecuted Rohingya minority in Burma (Myanmar) are struggling to recover from a powerful cyclone that swept up the coast, destroying tens of thousands of homes and displacing roughly half a million people.

UUSC is racing to get ahead of these twin crises but they are putting enormous pressure on our resources and threatening our commitments to other marginalized groups, here in the U.S. and all around the world.

That’s why I’m hoping you will contribute whatever you can, right now, to help UUSC raise the $100,000 we need for our Emergency Humanitarian Crisis Fund.

Whatever you can send will be put to work right away. In Tanzania, for example, you’ll help us team with our on-the-ground partner to deliver humanitarian aid and build economic empowerment for poor families and women-headed households.

In Kenya, you’ll help another of our longtime grassroots partners provide surplus food to orphans, widows, the elderly, and other especially vulnerable populations.

And on the far side of the Indian Ocean, your gift will deliver critically-needed health and hygiene items to families displaced by the cyclone in Burma and also help rebuild shelters destroyed by the storm.

When disaster strikes, it’s caring supporters like you, who fuel UUSC’s ability to respond immediately — and give struggling families who have survived the darkest of nights new hope for a brighter tomorrow.

On their behalf, thank you for helping us meet these twin crises by rushing whatever you can right now.

Sincerely,

Tom Andrews
President and CEO
